The community enjoyed a fun-filled day celebrating nature, wildlife, and hands-on learning!
We held our Biodiversity Day at the Priory on Saturday,1st March which was a huge success with a grand total of 642 visitors coming out to enjoy this free event. The day included a variety of local nature groups and stalls run by Council officer and Councillors. Children, parents and nature lovers alike enjoyed learning about what goes on in our soil and garden ponds, fun facts about birds, bats, bees and insects, together with making their own bird boxes, bug hotels, bird feeders, mini hedgehogs and insect-friendly herb planters!
Feedback we received from attendees included:
“Fantastic day– proves that everyone can do something to help!”
“Great event for all ages to learn something. Loved how hands on it was.”
“So much to do, very interactive and lots to learn and take away from the day.”
“Well done! So many of the children came in to school on Monday buzzing about all the things they learnt and were able to experience.”
“We got lots of advice, tips and tools to provide a good environment for our wildlife and plants, plus lots for my daughter to enjoy. The day provided for all the family including free refreshments and cleaning facilities. It was well thought through. Thank you.”
“We made a fantastic wooden bird box that will last years and provide good shelter for our robins and sparrows, we also made a beautiful – bigger then I’ve ever seen – pine cone bird feeder to hang in our tree. We also crafted a clay hedgehog and planted some garlic chive for the garden.“
