Bringing road safety to life through theatre
In February this year, Box Clever were delighted to travel to primary schools in Ware to perform their production, Getting There, with support from Ware Town Council.
Getting There’s combination of music, humour and energetic action, all set within a familiar family relationship, draws the pupils into a play which focuses on key road safety messages.
They visited schools across Ware including St John the Baptist CofE VA Primary School, St Catherine’s CofE Primary School, Priors Wood Primary School, Wheatcroft Primary School, St Mary’s Junior School, Thundridge CofE Primary
School, Christ Church CofE VA Primary & Nursery School and Hunsdon & Widford Primary Schools.
The group engaged 565 pupils in years 4, 5 & 6.
Teacher Hannah Clark of Hunsdon JMI commented, “The two gentlemen who performed were excellent – high energy, funny, relatable and easy to understand. They were also really friendly and flexible as they arrived and during set up. The production itself was great. It really grabbed the children’s attention and kept it throughout. The interaction was pitched just at the right level and the characters were really easy to relate to. We all agreed (adults and children alike) that we were able to recognise ourselves in different parts of the story. You could have heard a pin drop in the room when it got to the serious parts which were very well played and balanced. Thank you for bringing such an important message to our school in such a fun and relatable way!”
