Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June. In 2019, it will take place on Saturday 29 June.Armed Forces Day celebrations begin on Monday 24 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country.
On Monday 24th June Mayor Cllr Nina Villa held a small, but very fitting flag raising ceremony here in the Priory Grounds. As Nina served for many years as a Royal Naval Reserve Officer at HMS Wildfire in Northwood and as a voluntary instructor with the Sea Cadet Corps and also undertakes various voluntary roles including Chairman of Cheshunt Sea Cadets – this day of recognition for the Forces is very close to her heart.
We were blessed with the presence of Hertford & Ware ACF, Hertford & Ware Sea Cadets and 936 Squadron Hertford & Ware ATC.
Thank you to Second Lieutenant Gibbs of Hertford and Ware ACF who made a fantastically poignant speech, thank you to Hertford & Ware Sea Cadets for the beautifully co ordinated March through the Priory Grounds and to the Junior member for being brave and helping raise the flag. Thank you to 936 Squadron Hertford & Ware ATC for their wonderful band performance which left us with goosebumps!
Here are some more pictures from the evening. Enjoy!!! And once again – a HUGE thank you to all those involved, you really made it a wonderful evening all of you!!!!!
