Christmas Windows Prize Competition

Ware’s traditional festive lanterns that lined our streets each year have unavoidably been withdrawn from use and will not return for Christmas 2024. See here for the details of this decision. New illuminated set pieces and displays will be installed this month in the town centre.

We are encouraging shops and businesses to bring extra sparkle to Ware’s streets by lighting up your window during the festive season with a prize competition to compete for the title of Best Christmas Window Display.

We’re aiming to help keep the town merry and bright with this competition and showcase your creativity. Whether you keep it simple and classic or go the whole hog with a bold, colourful display, this is your chance to make Ware shine!

  • 1st Place: £500 for the Best & Brightest Window
  • 2nd Place: £250 for the runner-up display

Judging will be in the first week of December, but please have your lights display up in November. The Mayor of Ware and young people from his nominated charity, Herts Inclusive Theatre will tour the town to select the most beautiful, brightest and boldest light displays before picking the winner and runner-up.

The Ware Independent Traders Association (@WeLoveWare on Instagram) are offering creative support and some reimbursement for lighting supplies up to the value of £50. Get in touch with them on their Instagram page to apply. Reimbursements are on a first come first served basis.

Notes for businesses: All town centre* businesses with a window are eligible and welcome to take part!  Entry is free and no need to formally enter. Please avoid flashing lights as these can adversely impact some people. For the purposes of this competition, the town centre is considered to be: High Street, Baldock Street, West Street, Burgage Lane, East Street, New Road, Church Street, Tudor Square, Bridge Foot, Amwell End, Star Street (to Bowling Road). The Town Council and the Ware Independent Traders Association may take photographs of participating display windows. The photographs may be used in promotional material, social media or in the Town Council newsletter. Please contact [email protected] or call 01920 460316 with any queries.
